Serial Killers List - How We Choose Them
Our list of serial killers includes sick minds and sociopathic personalities. Some are the most famous serial killers of all times, including Jack the Ripper, The Zodiac Killer, and The Boston Strangler. Some are not as well known, but just as deadly with the number of kills staggering above 100, such as Dr. Harold Shipman, who reportedly ki**ed over 200 elderly women. Men are not the only serial killers on the list; there are also several women on the list. Elizabeth Bathory, also known as The bl**d Countess, enjoyed the art of torture. To keep her youthful appearance, Bathory resorted to k***ing over 600 young girls and drinking their bl**d. Disgusting, dangerous, deviant, however, you wish to describe them, these serial killers are best left to be read about and not ever met.

Serial Killers Defined
Murder is the unlawful k***ing of a human being by another. Giving a definition of a serial ki**er is not as simple. Serial k***ing is brought on by many different states of mind and takes on various forms for each. Rarely k***ing for money, serial killers often k*ll for the thrill, s**ual satisfaction and dominance they achieve within their psyche. Typically a serial ki**er is one who m**ders three or more people over a period of more than 30 days, with a rest period between m**ders. Some argue two or more m**ders qualify. The FBI states that the motives of a serial ki**er often include financial gain, thrill, anger, and attention. Often, the m**der victims have something in common such as race, appearance, sex, age group, and occupation. In rare exceptions, where the relationship between the victim and the offender is that of a stranger or slight acquaintance, the motivation to k*ll and apparent motives can be lacking. Some of the driving factors which lead serial killers on a k***ing spree include the following: voices in the head, childhood abuse or trauma, s**ual incompetency, seeking attention, inferiority complex and dysfunctional personality.

Famous Serial Killers Categorized
The motives of famous serial killers fall into four categories: visionary, mission-oriented, hedonistic and power/control. Keep in mind that any given ki**er can have multiple traits. Visionary serial killers undergo psychotic breaks from reality; they can believe they are another person or compelled to m**der by entities such as the devil or God. Mission-oriented serial killers want to rid the world of a particular type of person. By getting rid of these 'undesirable' people, they believe they are curing society's ills. These serial killers may focus on those attracted to their gender, prostitutes or people of a particular religion or ethnicity. Power/ control serial killers' primary goal is to exert power over their victim. They may have residual feelings of inadequacy and powerlessness from an abused childhood. These killers often s**ually abuse their victims not to seek pleasure but to dominate their victims. Hedonistic serial killers k*ll because of the thrill, deriving pleasure from the act; people are considered expendable means to their goals. Subtypes of the hedonistic ki**er include lust killers with sex, torture, and mutilation as their primary motives, thrill killers who create terror or induce pain in their victims and comfort/profit killers with material gain as their motives.

Famous Serial Killers to Die For
It's hard to determine when the first serial m**der began. If you think this is a modern phenomenon, think again. The sad**tic, savage impulses of serial killers are undoubtedly as old as humankind. According to historical criminologists, serial m**ders have occurred throughout history, although cases were not adequately recorded. Interestingly enough, some sources suggest legends such as werewolves and vampires were inspired by medieval serial killers. The first famous serial killers to receive media attention were Burke and Hare in 1828; they ki**ed 16 victims and sold them as cadavers to an anatomy lecturer. Jack the Ripper, known as the most famous serial ki**er of all time, ki**ed prostitutes in 1888 London, and the first American serial ki**er was H.H. Holmes in 1896, who m**dered 27. Throughout history, nothing has received more media attention or extracted more fear than a famous serial ki**er on the loose.

He displayed an iPod touch (3rd generation) with an untethered jailbreak that met MuscleNerd's requirements for a good video. In addition, he took a picture of Cydia and blackra1n icons on an iPad.

Technical Information

Basics

  • limera1n has nothing to do with SHAtter at all.
  • limera1n uses a bootrom exploit to achieve the tethered jailbreak and unsigned code execution.
  • limera1n uses a userland exploit to make it untethered, which was developed by comex.
  • limera1n uses a hacktivation dylib to perform hacktivation.

Exploits

limera1n reuses the usb_control_msg(0x21,2) but exploits a different vulnerability (see Limera1n Exploit).

Process

The jailbreak appears to execute something like the following (in no particular order):

  • In recovery1,
  • In DFU Mode, it uploads a payload.
  • In recovery2, it uploads another payload and its ramdisk.

Interesting Messages

Controversy

The release of this jailbreak was specifically designed to pressure the Chronic Dev Team into not releasing SHAtter, and instead implement the limera1n exploit into greenpois0n; after releasing limera1n, releasing SHAtter would uselessly disclose another bootrom exploit to Apple.

Geohot's rationale was that Apple already discovered, through internal testing, the limera1n exploit, making it very likely that it will be fixed in the next bootrom revision. Because iBoot code is present both in the bootrom and firmware, and because firmware is refreshed much more often than bootrom code, any fix in this code branch would appear first in firmware. Geohot observed his limera1n exploit was closed in firmware and concluded that it would almost certainly be fixed in the next bootrom revision, whereas SHAtter still has a chance of remaining useful for an indefinite amount of time. Both vulnerabilities ended up being patched in the iPad 2. It was fixed before the release of limera1n according to the build number. This has been confirmed by p0sixninja.

limera1n's untethered userland exploit for iOS 4.0 and 4.1 was obtained by geohot under questionable circumstances from comex. Comex did end up fixing the kernel patching code by beta2, so as to not break users' devices.

Hacktivation

limera1n will copy hacktivation.dylib to /usr/lib and change entries to com.apple.mobile.lockdown.plist, whether it has been activated using iTunes or not. This, while helpful to many, can also be harmful to legitimate activators. For a guide on how to remove this hacktivation on iTunes activated devices, see the link below.
